Joe has her suspicions about Josephina, but things are about to get much worse for the entire team. Lioness Season 2, Episode 4 has a nasty surprise in store during a warehouse raid.
We’re not even halfway through the series, but Lioness Season 2 has been dealt some devastating blows. The binge-worthy TV show follows an overarching plot to bring down the Mexican drug cartel Los Tigres, which is supposedly controlled by Chinese intelligence.
To catch them, Team Lioness has attempted to hire an inside spy, with American soldier Josephina related to leader Alvaro and lawyer Pablo. She struggles with her training in episode 3… and now Joe has caught her lying about something big.
Joe thinks it’s a risk to have Josephina on the team, but it doesn’t seem like either of them are going anywhere. Here’s the latest from Lioness Season 2 Episode 4.
The CIA pushes Josephina back in Lioness Season 2, Episode 4
Fresh off Bliss, Joe goes to work for the CIA at the start of Lioness Season 2, Episode 4. She details exactly what happened in the final scene of Episode 3, but the CIA isn’t exactly buying it. When pushed, Joe claims that Josephina wasn’t forced to participate in the program, although that’s not entirely what happened.
For the higher ups, it is not a matter of getting rid of Josephina; she is far too valuable for that. Instead, it figures out how to keep her both happy and useful. Joe is criticized for “taking her eye off the ball,” while Kaitlyn warns her not to take too much control away from a soldier trained as a freethinker. Be too controlling and no one wins.
On the way back, Joe is followed by a 4×4. She has Kyle, who is not too far away, check the license plates, which are registered to a special agent. As they catch up to her, the two block the truck to force it to stop, where it is revealed that the mysterious man is working with Mexican officials. He tells her how Team Lioness handled the kidnapping in Episode 1 and demands to know why they were at the border.
As we would expect, Joe refuses to tell him anything. Since the rescue mission made the news, the agent says the cartel already knows what’s going on. Then he threatens her – with one phone call he can keep an eye on him everywhere. He wants to work with her, not against her, but it’s clear the two are keeping information from each other.
We talk briefly about Neal, who feels the pressure at work after an organ removal operation goes wrong. He has to tell the parents that the dead girl is on his operating table, but he also received a card, even though we don’t know what it says.
Cruz is back on the team
At this point in the episode we are reintroduced to a familiar face, Cruz. We last saw her in season 1, shocked by her experiences. She resigned from the team after claiming that Joe’s leadership had turned her into a monster. So when she comes home and finds Joe in her kitchen, she’s less than pleased.
To bring two into discussion about their shared past, with each criticizing the way previous missions were handled by the other. But ultimately, Joe is there for a reason: to get her back on side. She explains Josephina’s problems, and how Cruz is the only person Joe trusts to keep her under control. If Josephina can’t eliminate her own family, she’ll need Cruz to succeed.
As expected, Cruz says she’s gone, but there’s a problem. Joe has already assigned her back to the Lionesses, which means it’s time to quit or pack up. Before you can blink, she’ll be back to Bliss on the new TV show.
The rest of the team watches the CCTV footage they set up at the beginning of Episode 3. Where Josephina tries to bond with the others. It seems like she is working and offering them good information and judgment based on what they see. However, it is short-lived: Josephina reveals that the faster they complete this mission, the faster she can return to Iraq.
Kyle gets a tip from our mysterious Mexican agent that the cartel is operating a warehouse nearby. Joe immediately thinks it’s a set-up, but Kyle reveals that Kaitlyn has already given the green light to it. Joe is once again furious that she isn’t making decisions for her team, leading to another outburst at the CIA. It’s a matter of scope versus budget, and Joe’s methods haven’t made the numbers add up.
A warehouse raid reveals new horrors
Lioness Season 2, Episode 4 ends with our new agent meeting with the entire Lioness team to share his warehouse information. However, he quickly becomes irritated when the footage is more than a month out of date, with Joe feeling like they are blindly walking into something dangerous.
She’s getting the latest information, and there’s certainly plenty of reason to watch it. After initial disagreement on how to go about it, they form two ground teams with Josephina in the air. The sniper team takes out everyone from the outside, with Josephina being ordered to take out the three police cars along the way to see what’s going on.
After much reluctance and three double-checks, Josephina does as she is told. Meanwhile, the second ground team enters the warehouse and finds hundreds of children – mostly girls – being held there. Some of them appear to have symbols on their hands. While talking to one of the girls in Spanish, Joe puts what looks like a tracking device in their shoe.
Surprisingly, Joe orders the team to move, while Cruz is left outraged that they are doing nothing to help. They all get into Josephina’s helicopter, shocked by what they have seen.
